The renowned Punta Hermosa artist Milagros Bellido Denegri (Lima, 1979), co-founder of the Maritierra art space, will open her exhibition "Embroidering New Life" on August 2 at the El Olivar Cultural Center in San Isidro. The exhibition celebrates Milagros' intimate connection with the sea and her ability to give new life to materials she finds in nature.

Since her adolescence, Milagros has found in the waters of Punta Hermosa an inexhaustible source of inspiration and balance. Her love for the ocean not only provides her with energy and joy but also gives her the materials she uses in her artistic creations. Walking along the shore, she collects wood that she takes to her Maritierra workshop, where she transforms it into unique works of art using embroidery and sculpture techniques.

Milagros' artistic journey began with an abandoned fisherman's boat on the Señoritas beach. By salvaging discarded planks, she turned them into coat racks, frames, and decorative figures. Her first major series, "Bichos" (Bugs), was exhibited in the collective show "The Vanguard of Forms" in 2019.

The pandemic sparked an evolution in her art, taking her to the Andes, where she learned the backstrap loom technique in Cusco with the master Hilda Mescco Mayta. This experience introduced her to the world of embroidery, which Milagros describes as a form of meditation. Upon returning to Punta Hermosa, she began combining embroidery with wood, creating pieces that tell unique stories.

"Embroidering New Life" includes intervened paddles and pieces such as a fragment of the boat "La Rosa," a tribute to her grandmother Rosa Aparicio de Bellido. Each work in the exhibition transforms discarded objects into vibrant artistic expressions, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in her creative universe.
