The Pico Alto wave in Punta Hermosa is one of the best "Big Waves" in South America, with a right direction and occasional left, the waves are outer-reef, well-defined, long, and feature a prominent tubular section. It is located approximately 20 minutes paddling from Playa Norte or you can go by jet ski to the break, attracting both Peruvian and international surfers.

During the winter swells, Pico Alto generates waves that can reach up to 7 or 8 meters. This challenge requires highly experienced and mentally prepared surfers to face these conditions. It is essential to have a GUN surfboard, colloquially called a "picoaltera," to tackle the wave safely.

Known for hosting renowned events such as the Big Wave World Tour, held between July and August, Pico Alto continues to be a prominent spot for professional surfers. Its beauty and untamed power make preparation and respect for the sea essential.

To ride this wave, one must have proper preparation as it is a very dangerous and large wave.
